Angelina Jolie
Real Name: Angelina Jolie Voigt
Date of Birth: 04 June 1975
Place of birth: Los Angeles, CA, USA
Profession: Actress
Angelina Jolie is the daughter of famous film actor, Jon Voight, who is critically and commercially acclaimed for roles in “Midnight Cowboy”, “Deliverance”, and a myriad of other films. Angelina first started her acting career in various acting and stage academies in Los Angeles, which opened the door to small, but recognizable roles in movies like, “Cyborg 2” and “Without Evidence”, both of which came out near the end of 1994. Jolie gained popularity in Hollywood after co-starring with Ethan Hawke in “Hackers”, which became a surprise cult hit. She then started to garner modest amounts of critical acclaim for more artistic and provocative roles, like in “Gia” and “True Women”, which were both released around 1998.
Jolie kept climbing the ranks in Hollywood, as 1999 proved to be a very fruitful year for her. She starred in “Pushing Tin”, with John Cusack and future husband, Billy Bob Thornton, while also starring aside Denzel Washington, in the “Bone Collector”. She also received more commercial appeal after starring in “Girl, Interrupted”, which showcased Jolie’s broad range of acting abilities, as well as her willingness to perform nude roles, a quality which she had already shown in 1998’s “Gia”. “Girl, Interrupted” proved to be a great medium for Jolie’s acting talents as she won an Academy Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her work in the film. The year 2000 saw Jolie marrying Billy Bob Thornton, but also proved to increase her commercial viability in “Gone in Sixty Seconds”, while her biggest commercial hit so far would come in 2001, from “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider”.
Jolie’s marriage to Billy Bob Thornton came to an end in 2004, after much speculation that she was having extramarital relations with her “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” co-star, Brad Pitt. While Jolie had denied such rumors, they eventually ruined both her and Pitt’s high-profile marriages, and the end-result became both Pitt and Jolie becoming a public pair in 2005, and Jolie’s giving birth to daughter Shiloh. Both Jolie and Pitt are very active in promoting adoption and AIDS awareness campaigns in the drought and famine-ravaged villages of Africa, and they continue to grow as a couple, while she continues to grow in her acting roles in late 2006.
Interesting Facts
Jolie once kissed her brother on the Oscar telecast when she won her Best Supporting Actress nod in 2000. The kiss was frowned upon as a moment that invoked cries of incest and disgust from fellow actors, actresses, and other members of the Academy.
When married to Billy Bob Thornton, both Jolie and Thornton kept small tubes of each others’ blood around their necks as a symbol of their undying love for each other and the shared bond they hoped to eternally share. The eternal love only lasted about three years, and was confirmed finished after Jolie filed for divorce from Thornton and was consequently seen around the “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” set with Pitt.
