Anne Hathaway is the daughter of famous stage actress, Kate McCauley, and received her first big role in 1999’s “Get Real”, but didn’t gain worldwide fame until her appearance in the well-received “Princess Diaries”, which was released in 2001. “Diaries” was quite the family film and gave Hathaway instant commercial and critical success, which usually doesn’t come from benign films like “Princess Diaries”. Hathaway then appeared in “Ella Enchanted” and “Princess Diaries 2” in 2004, both of which only proved to heighten her commercial success as a family-friendly role model for girls around the world. While Hathaway would never lose her allure as a family-friendly character actress off-screen, she began to take a different route with her onscreen approach.
Hathaway had a very big year in 2005, when she starred in the urban coming of age story, “Havoc”, and the rural artistic piece, “Brokeback Mountain”, which also starred Heath Ledger and Michelle Williams. These two movies would prove to be integral as stepping stones in Hathaway’s career, and took her away from the more innocent children’s movies. Hathaway appeared topless in both movies, which came as a shock to many of those who remembered her kind demeanor and sparkly smile from “Princess Diaries”. While the scenes did ruffle a few feathers, they were not meant to be deliberate nude pieces and were only done to accentuate the plots of the films. Both of the movies did wonders for Hathaway’s careers and really opened up the various types of roles she would be able to play in the future. The scenes also did not have any impact on Hathaway’s classy off-screen composure, which would eventually lead to even bigger success in 2006.
Hathaway became a leading actress for a more universally-themed film in “The Devil Wears Prada”, which was a big hit in the spring of 2006. Hathaway starred opposite Meryl Streep in the film, and was obviously happy to work alongside someone as talented and well-known as Streep. Hathaway’s acting future remains bright with only a few years behind her in her young career. She is currently filming “Becoming Jane”, a story about the life of Jane Austen, which is sure to be another great role in Hathaway’s flawless career. She will also star in a reworking of television’s “Get Smart”, as agent 99, and is rumored to be starring in “The Women”, a female-oriented film starring Candice Bergen, Meg Ryan, and Lisa Kudrow.

Anne Hathaway attended New York University and put the plans to complete a degree on hiatus after the success of her roles in the “Princess Diary” films.
Hathaway also was scheduled to play the role of Christine Dae in the film version of “Phantom of the Opera”, a film role that she relished performing, but was unable to do so because of her need to fulfill her contract to complete “Princess Diaries 2”, which did become another hit.
