Destiny Hope (Miley) Cyrus is the daughter of country singer Billy Ray Cyrus and Leticia ‘Tisha’ Cyrus. The name Miley is a nickname given to her because she kept smiling as a youngster. She has two elder half-brothers, Christopher Cody and Trace. Trace is a guitarist of an electronic rock band, Metro Station in California. She has an elder half-sister, Brandi and a younger brother, Braison and younger sister, Noah, who is an actress. Cyrus attended Heritage Middle School, but is now being privately tutored due to her hectic schedule of concerts and starring on the Disney Channel Original Series, Hannah Montana.
Cyrus’s first acting role was as a guest star on her dad’s TV series, Doc, in which she played a girl named Kylie. In 2003, she was ‘Young Ruthie’ in Tim Burton’s, Big Fish. She was featured in Rhonda Vincent’s music video for ‘If Heartaches Have Wings’ and appeared on Colgate Country Showdown with her father, who was hosting the program.
Currently, she is playing Hannah Montana/Miley Stewart on the Disney Channel. The role is that of a teenage regular high school student named Miley Stewart who is also the Rock Star Hannah Montana, but only a few people know her true identity. She also performs in character as Hannah Montana for albums and concerts.
Along with the television show and concerts, Disney released Hannah Montana products, including clothing, jewelry, and dolls. Play Along Toys released the Hannah Montana fashion dolls, singing dolls, Miley Stewart dolls and Oliver and Lilly dolls. Oliver and Lilly became one of the most popular Christmas toys in 2007.
Hannah Montana is highly rated and her concerts are generally sold out. Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich attended a concert and admitted he is a big fan who has seen every episode.
Hannah Montana concerts begin with the theme song ‘The Best of Both Worlds written by Matthew Gerrard and Robbie Nevil. The lyrics of the song describe the basic premise of Hannah Montana’s television series.
Cyrus is good friends with fellow co-stars Emily Osment and Michel Musso and can often be seen texting and conference calling each other during the day. Cyrus taught Osment how to play the guitar and Osment taught Cyrus how to knit. She is also good friends with the stars of the highly rated TV movie, ‘High School Musical,’ including Ashley Tisdale, Vanessa Hudgens and The Suite Life of Zack and Cody stars including Brenda Song.
Cyrus told Oprah Winfrey on her show The Oprah Winfrey Show, she looks up to Hilary Duff as her role model.
