Nicole Richie has never had a choice but to be in the spotlight, especially since she is the adopted daughter of Commodores’ frontman, Lionel Richie. Another famous member of her extended family is Michael Jackson, who is her godfather. Nicole’s real father is also a musician, and is the brother of famous drummer, Sheila Escovedo. The mixture of the fame has had a very large impact on the manner in which Richie was raised and continues to live. Her main cause of fame is due to her famous father, but she received more attention after appearing in FOX’s “The Simple Life”, with friend, Paris Hilton, whom she met while attending the prestigious Buckley School, which attracts many wealthy families’ children. She also attended the University of Arizona, but quit after being unable to decide on a concentration, and also making the decision that she had experienced enough of the “college experience”. Richie’s exploits have often put her out of favor with her parents, who are often fed up with their sometimes ill-behaving daughter. Nicole’s role on “The Simple Life” only furthered the problems, and gave the tabloids and other entertainment publications good reason to focus on the star and her troubled friend. Both Nicole and Paris were not ones to step away from the spotlight, as they seemed to relish the attention, and were especially high in-demand at red carpet occurrences. The release of Paris Hilton’s sex video only furthered the scope of press focus, but actually created a turning point in both Nicole, and Paris’s attitudes towards the media. Nicole is a singer in Josie Moran’s rock band, and came out with her own album in 2005, though it did not receive much commercial success, or any, good critical acclaim.
Richie is mostly known for being Paris Hilton’s sidekick, but has become quite famous, since their falling out in 2005. She has also gained quite a bit of attention for hanging out with reckless party girls, like Lindsay Lohan, Tara Reid, and other famous heiresses. She has also gained her fair share of tabloid attention after developing a fairly obvious eating disorder, which has seen her weight plummet dramatically, after once being the heavier part of the Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie pair.

Nicole has dated her fair share of men, and is often compared to Paris Hilton when concerning her taste in men. She has dated many actors and heirs, many of whom previously dated other members of her partying circle. She was actually engaged to DJ Adam Goldstein, but the engagement was short lived.
Nicole does tend to have her uplifting points and was known to be the more compassionate one, when compared to costar, Paris Hilton. She also seemed to be the brighter, and more functional member of the pair, especially when concerning subjects like religion, where Richie was noted as having a more open-minded attitude.
