Paris Hilton is the older sibling in the Hilton family, and is the heir to the Hilton Hotel fortune. Her younger sister, Nicky, has also been in the entertainment spotlight, but has not garnered the kind of (negative) attention that her older sister has been able to attain. Paris was unable to graduate from high school, and instead, got her GED, only after dropping out from a number of prestigious schools her family had enrolled her into.
Paris Hilton did not originally attain to become an actress, or a singer, but just decided to attain fame and be in the spotlight, a position, which had always seemed alluring to the heiress. She developed her own plan for achieving fame, and would later achieve fame for some feats she had not planned to go public with.
Paris starred with good friend, Nicole Richie, in FOX’s “The Simple Life”, but that was not the pinnacle of her public career. Her most famous and arguably, most embarrassing public moment was the release of a homemade sex video made with former boyfriend, Rick Salomon. The film was widely released, and was highly profitable for websites that brokered the video online. Her parents tried to have the video banned, or barred from the web by a court of law, but no such injunction was place on the media. Many speculate that the video was actually released by Paris herself, as an attempt to gain more attention. The video is one of the most popular sex tapes ever, and has prompted several business deals for Hilton, due to the topicality of her name at that time. Hilton has appeared in modest amounts of television commercials and shows, while also appearing in movies. Her biggest role to date has been an appearance in the film, “House of Wax”, which is a horror movie that tellingly finds Paris’s role short lived. She started her own record label, Heiress Records, and went on to release her own album, “Paris”, which was seen as a failure, by both critics, and fans.

Just as Hilton’s commercial failures tend to keep the media entertained, so does her love life. She has never dated anyone who hasn’t been an heir, or a millionaire outright, and that alone is a reason that the tabloids tend to focus on her love life. Her affair with Rick Salomon led to the leak of the infamous sex tape while her most recent relationships, have also been targeted by the press. Her engagement to Paris Latsis also garnered quite a bit of media attention, because of the name similarities, both of their statuses as heirs, and the gifts that Latsis would continually offer Hilton. The media coverage was also intense, because of the high possibilities of more “unfortunate incidents”, or other mishaps, that Hilton could pass off as accidental, but actually orchestrate as an attempt at gaining more fame.
