Alicia Silverstone Bares All for PETA
Alicia Silverstone shot a commercial for the animal rights group PETA in Houston, Texas on vegetarianism, which was to appear September 19 in the Houston area. The ad is to promote good eating habits in Houston, which was deemed the sixth fattest city in the nation by Men’s Fitness magazine earlier this year.
Silverstone is seen emerging from a pool with her arms covering her naked body as she steps out. She said she was not always a vegetarian, but she has always loved animals.
“Physically, the effect [of being a vegetarian] has been amazing,” she said.
Silverstone became a vegan in 1998 after attending an animal rights meeting.
Alicia Silverstone was born October 4, 1976 and is an American actress and former fashion model. In the early years, she received recognition in music videos for Aerosmith and later starred in the movies Clueless and as Batgirl in Batman and Robin, which was neither a critical or financial success. The movie Clueless however became a sleeper hit during the summer of 1995.
Silverstone appeared on ‘The View’ on May 23, 2007 during a heated exchange between Rosie O’Donnell and Elisabeth Hasselbeck on the Iraq war. Silverstone is seen in the video segment entering and walking past Hasselbeck to greet the other hosts. Although the conversation went smoothly between Silverstone and Hasselbeck, Access Hollywood viewed the incident as a deliberate snub.
Hasselbeck stated on The View September 19 that Silverstone called and apologized for the incident and said she was nervous when she walked on stage and didn’t want the episode to be viewed wrongly by the media. Silverstone has strong opinions and is noted for being an animal welfare and environmental activist.
Alicia Silverstone is married to her longtime boyfriend, rock musician Christopher Jarecki. They had dated for eight years after meeting in an outside movie theater in 1997. Ever the romantic, Jarecki gave Alicia an engagement ring that belonged to his grandmother. The couple lives in an eco-friendly Los Angeles house with solar panels and an organic vegetable garden.
