Anna Kournikova – Steering Clear of Super Bowl Mayhem
Chicago Sun-Times columnist Elliot Harris took advantage of the fact that Anna Kournikova would be traveling to Chicago in February for a tennis exhibition at the Sears Centre to place a phone call to the former female tennis sensation. Who could blame him?
The Russian-born tennis phenomenon now resides in Miami, Florida, which is hosting this year’s Super Bowl.
When Harris asked if she followed professional football, Kournikova responded, “I’m not really like on a regular basis, but I do know you guys are in the finals, right?’’
That was Kournikova’s way of acknowledging that she knew the Chicago Bears were vying for the championship at Super Bowl XLI against the Indianapolis Colts Sunday, February 4th; XLI is 41 for those who don’t want to look it up.
Although she will be watching the game, she won’t be cheering for any particular team. “I’m not like leaning one way or the other. I don’t even know the rules, so …”
As far as joining the throngs of partying people who prefer the festivities, tailgating and parties over the game itself, Kournikova is steering away from that crazy scene, “… I’m sure we’ll watch it with my friends. I think I’m going to be here in Miami, but I’m definitely going to try to stay away from the South Beach because I can’t imagine how crazy it’s going to be.”
Of course by “we” she means her longtime boyfriend, Enrique Iglesias. Kournikova lives in Miami with Iglesias, the Spanish-born singer and heart throb.
