Brandy May Face Manslaughter Charges
Singer/Actress Brandy Norwood could face manslaughter charges resulting in a fatal car crash caused by the singer. Brandy was involved in the car crash on a Los Angeles highway last December 30. The crash resulted in one fatality. The California Highway Patrol has sent a report to the State’s Attorney’s Office recommending that Brandy be charged with misdemeanor vehicle manslaughter.
Brandy was driving her Land Rover on a highway last December 30th. Traffic in front of Brandy slowed down. The singer did not notice in time to slow down. She hit the back of a Honda causing it to go into another lane where it was hit by another car. The driver of the Honda, Awatef Aboudihaj, died the next day of blunt force trauma. There is no word as to what distracted Brandy from noticing the speed of the traffic ahead of her.
The State’s Attorney’s Office has released this statement. “The office is currently reviewing the case and determining whether the evidence warrants the filing of a misdemeanor charge of vehicular manslaughter,” says Nick Velasquez, spokesman for the city attorney’s office.
Brandy, age 27, is the daughter of a Minister. She grew up singing hymns in her father’s church. Brandy is currently separated from her husband - producer Robert Smith. The couple have one child together, a daughter named Sy’rai who was born in June, 2002.
Brandy is best known as a singer and has won many awards including a 1998 Grammy for her song, “The Boy Is Mine”. As an actress she is best known for her role in UPN’s sitcom, Moesha.
If convicted of these charges Brandy could face a year in prison and a $1000 dollar fine. It is reported that Brandy has sent her condolosences to the victim’s family.
