Britney Spears To Undergo Random Drug/Alcohol Testing
Wednesday, September 19, 2007
Britney Spears was in Superior Court in Los Angeles September 18 fighting for custody of her children when the judge ordered Spears to undergo random drug and alcohol testing. The judge also ordered Spears to spend eight hours a week working with a parenting coach who will be observing her and her interaction with her children. Both parents are to refrain from alcohol for at least 12 hours when they have the children. Both parents are also to refrain from derogatory remarks about each other during the case, according to CNN.com.
The judge ordered the testing due to evidence presented in court and both are to go for joint co-parenting counseling as well as barring the parents in the use of corporal punishment on their two boys. The judge found that Britney engaged in ‘habitual, frequent and continuous use of a controlled substances and alcohol.’ There was no mention of what drugs she allegedly was taking.
Britney Spears has had multiple melt-downs or perhaps one giant one that refuses to let up, with the latest being her not so great performance on MTV’s VMA September 9. Spears looked glassy eyed, had trouble lip-synching to her music and had to endure scathing media reports about her weight.
Britney and her ex-husband Kevin Federline had split custody after the divorce in July, however Federline became increasingly concerned about the way Britney was treating the children and went to court to revise the custody arrangements.
The 25-year-old singer was in court with her new lawyers after Laura Wasser resigned after reportedly butting heads with her. Her management company, ‘The Firm’ also resigned after representing her for a month, also because the singer wouldn’t listen and felt Spears was preventing them from doing their jobs.
Britney Spears has a new album that is due to make its appearance in stores November 13.
