How do you spell comeback? V-M-A of course! Rumors had been swirling around the former pop tart for weeks about launching her much needed comeback at MTV’s annual Video Music Awards. Access Hollywood reported that there was “a very strong chance Britney will open the MTV VMA’s.” X17 Online, however, was able to obtain exclusive confirmation of the performance from the singer herself. MTV themselves followed up this break with an official press release regarding the pop star’s performance. This surprise performance could very well be the jolt that she needs to revive her deadened career. Unfortunately, if Britney does poorly it could mean that she doesn’t stand a chance for a comeback at all.
Although the fact that she will be performing at Sunday’s VMA’s has been confirmed, there has been no official word on exactly what she will bring to the table. Just what is it that Spears is rumored to be doing at the show? Britney and possible current flame, magician and self-named “mindfreak” Criss Angel, are planning one heck of a show together. Purportedly, Spears will perform two tracks from her new album – due out November 13th – called “Gimme More” and “Cry.” According to reports, Criss Angel will aid Britney in moving about the stage using mirrors so she “appears to be disappearing and reappearing.” If Britney can pull something spectacular off, like her performance of “I’m a Slave 4U” at the 2001 MTV Video Music Awards, then she might actually succeed in wowing fans – in a positive way. Spears was recently paid to host the grand opening of LAX club in Las Vegas and showed up sober and looking decent – perhaps we can expect to see more of Spears getting her life together and her job back on track.
One thing is certain – Britney Spears’ performance at the MTV Video Music Awards is highly anticipated by fans and non-fans alike. It could be a great move for her career or it could be the end of it – wait and see!
