Carrie Underwood Back on Awards Trail
Tuesday, November 20, 2007
American Idol favorite Carrie Underwood was back on the awards trail this week as she picked up three awards at the American Music Awards, including favorite female country artist and country album.
Underwood, who won the popular TV talent show in 2005, has captured the hearts of the American public in the past two years and has picked up a string of awards.
Her debut album ‘Some Hearts’ has sold over six million copies already and her second album ‘Carnival Ride’, which was released on October 30, is going strong. The 24-year-old is also the reigning Country Music Awards vocalist of the year.
Meanwhile, another American Idol favorite Chris Daughtry, who competed on the TV show in 2006, also picked up three awards at this week’s event.
International superstar Beyonce was presented with the coveted international artist award by Usher.
“I’m so blessed to wake up every morning and do what I love. I’m so grateful, so honored and so humbled by this award,” she said.
Past winners of this award include such music legends as Rod Stewart, Michael Jackson and Aerosmith.
The fact that this was the first year that the winners were chosen online by fans will make the award all the more special for Beyonce. The nominees were selected based on record sales and radio play.
Justin Timberlake was also back on the awards trail as he picked up awards for best male pop-rock artist and soul/R&B album for FutureSex/LoveSounds. However, he could not attend the event because he was in Australia.
Rapper TI, who won two awards in the hip-hop category, was also unable to attend, but for entirely different reasons. He is under house arrest while awaiting trial on weapons charges.
