Dame Helen Mirren Set For Oscar Stardom?
It seems even the most famous and glamorous of actors can suffer from nerves, with the ever popular Dame Helen Mirren admitting to pre-Oscar nerves ahead of the big night on Sunday. While 61 year old Dame Mirren is forecasted to walk away with the best actress role, for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth in the award winning movie “The Queen”, she fears that the public may be growing tired of her.
She has already accumulated over 20 prizes for her role as Queen Elizabeth, including a Bafta and Golden Globe award, as well as receiving the “royal approval” with the Queen herself said to be very impressed with her portrayal in the movie. While Dame Mirren looks set to sweep the board (with UK bookmakers already paying out on her winning the best actress award), the movie director Stephen Fear is not so confident about his nomination for best director.
Originally born Ilyena Vasilievna Mironov, Dame Mirren has been a stalwart on the UK TV scene for many years having starred in movies such as Age of Consent (1969), The Long Good Friday (1980), The Madness of King George (1994), Calendar Girls (2003) and Shadowboxer (2006) to name but a few. She married American film director Taylor Hackford in 1997, although they have been together since 1986.
While it is only recently that Dame Mirren has come to the attention of the worldwide movie industry, she is a breath of fresh air in a business which has been dominated by the younger generation. At a time when many of her generation may be settling down for a quiet life, Dame Mirren has many more projects in the pipeline and you can be sure that both the US and UK markets will be seeing a lot more of this versatile star in 2007.
