Ellen DeGeneres in Hot Water Over a Dog
Wednesday, October 17, 2007
Ellen DeGeneres is known for her love of animals, but she managed to annoy the Mutts and Moms rescue agency in Pasadena. Evidently Ellen gave the dog to her hairdresser and her daughters.
The problem is when DeGeneres picked up the dog at Mutts and Moms; she signed a form stating she would not give the animal away unless the owners were notified. Owners Marina Batkis and Vanessa Chekroun run the non-profit Mutts and Moms out of their store Paws Boutique and are adamant that no animals go to anyone with children younger than 14.
DeGeneres’s hairdresser’s children are 11 and 12. DeGeneres on her TV show Oct. 16th said she was the one who erred by signing an agreement prohibiting her from giving the dog, a four-month-old Brussels Griffon terrier mix away without notifying the owners.
Because of the policy of no child less than 14 years old will be given a dog, the dog, which was named Iggy, was taken back to Mutts and Moms Oct.15. This is after DeGeneres paid $3,000 to neuter and train Iggy to get along with cats.
DeGeneres on her show ‘Ellen’ pleaded with the Mutts and Moms by saying; “I feel totally responsible for it and I’m so sorry. I’m begging them to give that dog back to that family. It’s not their fault. It’s my fault. I shouldn’t have given the dog away. Just please give the dog back to those little girls.”
Evidently the plea fell on deaf ears as the Mutts and Moms rescue agency did not respond to the plea.
Owners Batkis and Chekroun stated they would not be giving the dog back because they don’t think this is the type of family that should have the dog and, according to their lawyer Keith Fink who is speaking on their behalf, they were not going to be bullied by the Ellen DeGeneres’s of the world.
