Gwen Stefani Starts College Fund For California Fire Victims
Pop star Gwen Stefani is setting up a college fund for victims of the San Diego wildfire, which destroyed more than 1,700 homes and killed 10 people last October in San Diego, according to E! Online.
Gwen said she calls San Diego her second home because the city has always been very supportive of her throughout her career. “When I heard about the devastation of the fires, at first I felt I should cancel my show out of respect. But then it occurred to me there might be a more useful solution.” She said in an October 29th radio interview. She then donated $166.000 from the proceeds of the show to the San Diego Foundation relief fund, which will administer the Sweet Escape singer’s contribution.
Stefani was nominated for a Grammy December 7th along with Akon. She is an American singer, songwriter, fashion designer and occasional actress. Stefani debuted in 1992 as the frontwoman of the third wave ska band ‘No Doubt, who’s 1995 album Tragic Kingdom propelled them to stardom. The band was started by her brother.
Stefani recorded her first solo Love, Angel. Music. Baby in 2004 which was inspired by music of the 1980’s and led her to work into pop, R&B and dance music. The album sold more than seven million.
In 2003, Stefani showed off her own clothing line, L.A.M.B. and expanded her collection with the 2005 Harjuku Lovers line. She is married to British alternative rock musician Gavin Rossdale since 2002 and they have a son, Kingston, born in 2006.
Most of the female members of the Stefani clan were seamstresses and Gwen has made most of the clothing she wore on stage with No Doubt, resulting in increasingly eclectic combinations. Her L.A.M.B. line takes influence from a variety of fashions, including Guatemalan, Japanese and Jamaican styles and has been popular with celebrities like Teri Hatcher, Nicole Kidman and of course Stefani. Last summer, Stefani released a perfume, L, first as part of her LAMB collection of clothing and accessories. The perfume’s scent is that of sweet pea and rose.
