Hayden Panettiere’s Worthy Cause

Hayden Panettiere was spotted and videotaped in Japan several days ago trying to prevent a dolphin slaughter with other members of an activist group called Sea Shepherd. The group paddled out to the dolphin fishing boats on their surfboards, attempting to get the fisherman’s attention. The fisherman, unfortunately, engaged in dangerous maneuvers to try to get the group to desist, including blocking their path with the motorboat’s propeller and jabbing at them with a pole. The group was forced to go back to shore.

For the first time since the incident, Hayden is speaking out about the dolphin slaughters that occur in Japan every year, and is using her publicity as a well known actress and popular television star to bring awareness to her cause.

The Heroes star says, “I feel the need to be a voice of worthy and important causes whose efforts impact the lives of every person on Earth. Now more than ever the world has to come together to make changes. Just because certain cultures have had long-standing traditions does not mean that in today’s world they are acceptable any longer. The world and the environment are evolving and that means we must change our ways as human beings as well.”

Just what can Hayden do when over 14,000 dolphins are slaughtered in Japan alone every year? “Because I am in the public eye I feel the need to be a voice of worthy and important causes whose efforts impact the lives of every person on Earth.” In addition to putting forth her own funds to help cease the dolphin killings, Panettiere is generating a level of positive response from others who have either remained unaware of the slaughters or were unwilling to help. Hayden’s publicity will bring forth a new wave of dolphin supporters and perhaps one day, the killings will cease.
