Jennifer Garner Broadway Bound
Jennifer Garner, (a.k.a. Mrs. Ben Affleck) is coming off a year-long maternity leave and looking to get back to her roots in the theater in New York. She started out 12 years ago as an understudy and now is returning to Broadway. Garner will be starring in the Broadway revival of Cyrano de Bergerac. The show is to begin Nov. 1 at the Richards Rodgers Theater and runs through December 3rd.
Jennifer Garner will play Roxanne opposite Kevin Kline who is slated to play the title role. Daniel Sunjata will play Roxanne’s other suitor, the handsome Christian. This will be Garner’s Broadway debut.
The 35-year-old Alias star has a movie coming out co-starring Jamie Foxx, Jason Bateman, Chris Cooper and Jeremy Piven in the terrorism thriller The Kingdom Sept. 28 according to E Online. She will also appear in the movie Juno, also co-starring Bateman, which will have a limited release in December.
Garner follows Julia Roberts, another actress who headed for Broadway after maternity leave when she starred in the play ‘Three Days of Rain’, but failed to endear herself to theater critics.
Kevin Kline has two Tony awards and an Oscar and will be Broadway’s first Cyrano in 20 years. The role has been played by Derek Jacobi in 1984 at the Royal Shakespeare Company productions and Jose Ferrer was probably the most famous modern Cyrano in the 1950 film version in which he earned an Oscar. Steve Martin parodied him in the play in his 1987 comedy Roxanne also starring Daryl Hannah.
