Another Jennifer Lopez Success Story
Jennifer Lopez, J-Lo to her fans and Jenny in her old neighborhood, has a new project in the making. In an aggressive and optimistic move for greater Hispanic audience share in the upcoming television fall season, Univision is introducing 30 new projects - and one that is bound to bring a lot of attention to the growing reach of Univision, a Jennifer Lopez mini-series, a version of Desperate Housewives.
Last night, Univision introduced Ms. Lopez and her new production, which is scheduled for their upcoming season lineup. Lopez was personally on hand to promote the show and Univision, helping the network sell upfront advertising in advance of shows airing. Univision, the leading Spanish-speaking media company in the U.S. and a serious competitor with other national and international broadcasting companies, presents their annual upfront show to promote and obtain as much commercial type advertising as possible before the season opens. Her personal appearance at the show, along with other Univision stars, brought rounds of applause from a standing room only audience at Lincoln Center in New York City, helping presale billions in advertising. The program was also attended by her talented husband Marc Anthony, who closed the show with his own performance.
Already a household name in the female celebrity arena, Jennifer Lopez is an accomplished singer, actress, fashion designer, dancer, and songwriter, having made millions of dollars since her first appearances as a Fly Girl on “In Living Color” and soon after as a backup dancer on a Janet Jackson video in 1993. In addition to recording numerous albums and CDs, she has starred in films, TV reality shows, introduced her own clothing and perfume line, and made guest appearances on numerous occasions. It is not surprising that she was in Forbes magazine’s List of the 20 richest women in the world of entertainment and one of the highest paid Latin stars in Hollywood. Among her numerous accomplishment, Lopez has proven to be quite the entrepreneur also; beyond her fashion and perfume passions, the upcoming Univision project was a Lopez creation as well.
Ms. Lopez wrote and will produce the mini-series or telenovella (short novel), entitled Como Ama una Mujer, the same title as her latest Spanish hit CD. The 5-part series, based on the English version of TV’s Desperate Housewives and inspired by real events, will explore the love and happiness of a woman’s life in Hollywood. The show is scheduled for a 10:00 p.m. time slot, but the opening date has not yet been set. Univision has an estimated 4 million viewers around the world, 90% of whom are Hispanic; no doubt the company and Ms. Lopez are optimistic that the Jennifer Lopez name and her personal acting and involvement in the new mini-series will help those numbers climb higher - one more success story for Jennifer Lopez.
