Versace Feels The Curse Of The Fashion Industry
While the heated debate about “size zero” continues, it has been confirmed today that Allegra Versace, the 20 year old daughter of fashion designer Donatella Versace is suffering from anorexia. There has been much worry and speculation over the last few months about Allegra’s waif like frame, with many commenting on her ailing physical appearance.
Even though Allegra has been rarely seen in the media spotlight, she controls a staggering 50% of the Versace Group which was left to her by her late uncle Gianni. After battling back from a rare form of cancer, Gianni was tragically gunned down by crazed killer, Andrew Cunanan. He had been very close to his niece Allegra, a move which was reflected by the fact he left her effective control on the Versace empire - an investment valued at in excess of $700 million.
While her mother Donatella is estranged from Allegra’s father Paul Beck, the pair have joined forces to ensure Allegra has their support for the long fight ahead. It appears that Allegra has been suffering from the eating disorder for many years, although only recently it has become apparent that the situation was spiralling out of control.
As seems the norm nowadays there has been much speculation and counter speculation on the internet with regards to Allegra’s condition. This seems to have been the catalyst which forced the media shy Versace clan to open up to the press about their private lives. Even though Allegra has effective control of the Versace Group she is currently studying to become an actress, although these plans are currently on hold until her condition improves.
It is perhaps ironic that Allegra is suffering from an illness which many associate with the fashion industry, and the pressure on models to keep their weight down to a minimum. The fashion world has united behind the family in wishing Allegra the swiftest of recoveries, but she will not be the last from the fashion industry to encounter such difficulties.
