Profession: Actress
Jessica Marie Alba was born April 28, 1981 in Pomona, CA. Raised in an Air Force family, Alba’s family moved around a bit before they finally settled back in California. As a child, Alba suffered a lot of medical problems, such as collapsed lungs, pneumonia, a ruptured appendix and a tonsil cyst. Alba was interested in acting as early as age 5. She took her first acting class when she was 12, and was signed by an agent within nine months. She appeared in national TV commercials for Nintendo and J.C. Penney.
The year 1994 brought Alba her first roles - she lucked into a leading part in “Camp Nowhere” and had a small role in Nickelodeon’s “The Secret World of Alex Mack.” She followed this up with a role in the first two seasons of the 1995 TV series “Flipper.” Focused on acting, Alba graduated high school early at age 16 and went on to attend the Atlantic Theater Company.
Alba continued to catch attention with her role as a snobby high schooler in the 1999 comedy “Never Been Kissed” and a leading role in horror flick “Idle Hands” that same year. However, her biggest break came with FOX’s “Dark Angel,” which premiered in 2000 and ran until 2002. Alba’s starring role in the series pulled her into prominence, and soon she was landing roles in films like “Honey,” “Sin City,” “Fantastic Four,” “The Eye” and “The Love Guru.”
Alba’s good lucks have caused her to be featured on lists like “99 Most Desirable Women” (voted by readers of Askmen.com) and 25 Sexiest Celebrities (Playboy, March 2006). Despite her sex appeal, Alba has said she would like to be taken seriously as an actress. She maintains a no-nudity clause in her contract.
Alba dated her “Dark Angel” cast mate Michael Weatherly for four years. The pair eventually got engaged and broke up. In May 2008, she married Cash Warren. In June of that year, she gave birth to her daughter Honor Marie Warren.
Alba is outspoken and has given her support to Barack Obama for the 2008 elections. She is involved with numerous charity organizations including Clothes Off Our Back, Habitat for Humanity, National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, Project HOME and many others.
